Australian soprano Fiona Jopson has been distinguished for her “gleaming soprano ripe with elegance, dynamism and flexibility” and “her widely expressive Soprano impressing from the steaming lower range through to her evenly controlled top notes”.

 

Fiona made her Opera Australia principal company debut in 2024 jumping in as Giorgetta (Il Tabarro). It was acclaimed that “Vocally she was all that could be desired” - Bachtrack. Most recently for Opera Australia she has appeared as 1st Wood Sprite (Rusalka), Micäela (Carmen), Soprano Soloist (Great Opera Hits) and covered the role of Cio Cio San (Madama Butterfly).

 

As a member of the Wiener Staatsoper Principal Ensemble she performed 1st Lady (Die Zauberflöte), Helmwige (Die Walküre), Third Norn (Götterdämmerung) and Dama di Lady (Macbeth); Soprano Solos in the 150th Anniversary Year of the Wiener Staatsoper, Matinees presenting new productions of Madama Butterfly, Un Ballo in Maschera, Fidelio Urfassung (Leonore) and Dantons Tod. She also covered major roles including Elisabetta di Valois (Don Carlo), Desdemona (Otello), Leonora (Il Trovatore), Amelia (Un ballo in Maschera), Mimi (La Bohème),Tatyana (Eugene Onegin), Ariadne (Ariadne auf Naxos), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) and Contessa (Le Nozze di Figaro). In the 19/20 season she performed alongside Plácido Domingo as the title role in Verdi’s Macbeth.

 

Other Australian engagements have included Ariadne (Ariadne auf Naxos) for OperaBox, Leonora (Il Trovatore) and Mimi (La Bohème) for Citi Opera, Bach’s Magnificat in D and Mass in F Major, recitals of operatic arias and Lieder, including Mahler’s Rückert Lieder.

 

Fiona is a graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts, Winner of the 2015 Herald Sun Aria, Winner of the 2018 Vienna State Opera Award (Opera Foundation for young Australians), 2017 Finalist in the Elizabeth Connell International Singing Competition for Dramatic Sopranos and was the Recipient 2014 Fellowship Accademia alla Scala (Acclaim Awards).
